Koretsky warned of a difficult winter due to intensified attacks by Russia
According to government forecasts, the coming winter in Ukraine will be no easier than the previous one. Russia has significantly increased the intensity of its attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure.
Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi stated that Ukrainian regions are already preparing for the new heating season and possible prolonged power outages.
Special attention is being paid to educational institutions. For the first time this year, 1 billion hryvnia has been allocated to equip shelters in kindergartens. Ukraine is also continuing to build underground schools: 96 such facilities were built last year, and by the end of 2026, their number is expected to reach about 200.
According to Koretskyi, about 19,500 schools and kindergartens are already equipped with generators, solar panels, and energy storage systems. Another 220 educational institutions will receive additional equipment to operate during prolonged power outages.
“This winter is not expected to be any easier, as the intensity of attacks on the enemy’s infrastructure has increased significantly, by an order of magnitude,” the prime minister said.
