Kremlin: US sanctions may complicate peace settlement — Daily Maverick
In Russia, the aggressor state, the Kremlin said that additional US sanctions could complicate the search for a peaceful settlement of the war against Ukraine. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow is monitoring the progress of the sanctions bill, which the US House of Representatives approved and sent to President Donald Trump for signing.

Peskov called the document an “unfriendly action” and said that the introduction of new US sanctions would complicate efforts to achieve a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.
As Daily Maverick reports, the US House of Representatives the previous day backed a large-scale sanctions package intended to increase economic pressure on Russia over its war against Ukraine.

What the bill provides for
The sanctions package targets Russia’s energy and defense sectors, as well as its shadow fleet of tankers that bypass existing restrictions. The purpose of the document is to deprive Moscow of revenue to finance the war against Ukraine.
The bill also authorizes Trump to impose tariffs of up to 100% on China, India and other countries in order to reduce their dependence on Russian oil and gas. India warned Washington that new tariffs over purchases of Russian oil could affect bilateral relations.
US mediation efforts to end the war, which has lasted four and a half years, have been stalled for several months. Earlier in September, Trump sent two envoys to Moscow and Kyiv to reinvigorate the process.
