The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is working to block Russia’s “shadow fleet“
The team at Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is actively participating in the economic war to limit the operations of Russia’s shadow fleet. Ukraine, together with international partners, is increasing strategic pressure on Russian maritime logistics.
The main target is the shadow fleet that the Kremlin uses to bypass sanctions and finance the war through oil exports.
Minister Mykhailo Fedorov told journalists that Ukraine is moving into an active phase of neutralizing Russia’s shadow fleet, which funds the war.
“We will actively work to restrict oil processing in Russia and address other critical areas. We have begun cooperation with Ukrainian and international institutions and services to unite everyone around a common goal,” Fedorov said.
He also noted that Russia launches missiles at Ukraine directly from the assembly line. “That’s why they increased crude oil exports — they need cash. Their budget deficit is growing. So we need to continue the pressure, as we are approaching the ‘pain point,’” the minister added.
Within the Ministry of Defense, a dedicated team with specialized expertise has been established to focus exclusively on blocking Russian maritime logistics.
France discovered two Russian security personnel on a tanker of the shadow fleet. Earlier, Britain was unable to strengthen pressure on the fleet, with sanctioned vessels returning to the English Channel.
Fourteen European countries have issued warnings to tankers of Russia’s shadow fleet, which is at risk of becoming unprofitable.
