Moldova requested electricity assistance from Romania due to Russian attacks on Ukraine

On Saturday, December 6, the government of Moldova asked Romania for urgent assistance with electricity supply due to an emergency situation caused by overnight attacks by Russian terrorists on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

This was reported by the Moldovan power grid operator, Moldelectrica.

The attacks on Ukraine’s energy system led to the shutdown of an “important energy unit.” In addition, the interconnection lines are nearly at full capacity.

“In connection with exceeding the planned flow, Moldelectrica requested emergency assistance from Romania for the next few hours as a preventive measure,” the statement said.

The Moldovan power grid operator added that this step will ensure the safe operation of the electricity system and prevent possible overloads. At the same time, it urged citizens to use electricity rationally, especially during peak hours, to reduce the risk of overloads and potential outages.

For reference, on the night of December 6, Russian forces launched a new combined attack on Ukraine, deploying over 700 drones and missiles, but air defense forces destroyed almost all enemy targets.

Three Czech Mi-171Sh helicopters, stationed in Poland, were deployed overnight during the Russian assault on Ukraine.

During the combined attack, explosions were heard in Kyiv. Local authorities reported air defense operations, and the Air Force reported flights of “Kinzhal” missiles and ballistic trajectories toward the capital.
