The SBU detained a Russian informant who was coordinating strikes on the Khmelnytskyi region
The SBU’s Counterintelligence Service detained a Russian informant in the Khmelnytskyi region who was coordinating missile and drone attacks on the region. According to the investigation, he directed strikes against administrative buildings, logistics warehouses, and locations where the Defense Forces’ personnel and equipment were concentrated.
The investigation revealed that an unemployed resident of Slavuta was responsible for coordinating the Russian shelling; he had come to the attention of Russian intelligence officers through Telegram channels where people were looking for “easy” money.
Following instructions from the Russians, the informant surveyed the city and its surrounding area to identify and transmit the geolocations of potential “targets” to Russia.
SBU officers exposed the suspect at the very beginning of his espionage activities—after he had received a hostile assignment to collect coordinates for planned shelling of the western region.
It was documented that the suspect used his phone camera to photograph the facade of an administrative building and the checkpoints of a military unit.
After that, the spotter was supposed to identify and “leak” the geolocations of Ukrainian military storage facilities to the Russians.
SBU counterintelligence officers detained the suspect at his place of residence. During searches, they found a smartphone on which he had stored photos of Ukrainian facilities and electronic coordinates on Google Maps.
Investigators from the Security Service informed the informant that he is suspected of violating Part 3 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorized dissemination of information regarding the movement or deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, committed under martial law).
The suspect is being held in custody without the right to bail. He faces up to 12 years in prison.
Comprehensive investigative measures were carried out by SBU officers in the Khmelnytskyi region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor’s office.
