Journalists from Suspilne came under fire in the Dnipropetrovsk region

A film crew from "Suspilne Dnipro" came under mortar fire in the Dnipropetrovsk region while carrying out an assignment.

This was reported by the Institute of Mass Information, citing the journalists.

The incident occurred on March 30 in the village of Kapulivka, Pokrovska community, Nikopol district. Correspondent Roman Mykhalchuk and cameraman Danylo Nikolaienko were preparing a report on civilian life in the frontline region.

The shelling began just as the journalist was preparing to record a stand-up report at the scene.

“We were working under police escort along the coastline to document the aftermath of Russian strikes on the coastal area as quickly as possible. And while we were recording the stand-up, mortar crews from the occupied part of Zaporizhzhia Oblast began firing at us. The Russians apparently spotted the police car and us in our body armor and helmets through their optics. We heard the whistle of a shell that hit the middle of the street about 100 meters away from us. There was no time to hide anywhere immediately, because it happened in a matter of seconds,” Mykhalchuk told IMI in a comment.

The journalists managed to drop to the ground and wait out the first explosions, after which they made their way to the police car. The shelling continued even as they were leaving—one of the shells exploded about 50 meters from the vehicle.

Neither the journalists nor the law enforcement officers were injured in the incident.
