An occupier who was speaking Ukrainian and approached Ukrainian Armed Forces positions was exposed on the front lines
During the battle, Ukrainian soldiers encountered a Russian serviceman who spoke Ukrainian and was attempting to approach the Defense Forces’ positions by posing as one of their own. It later turned out that he was passing coordinates to the enemy.
According to “Mamochka,” the soldiers were heading toward their positions when a man suddenly appeared ahead of them and began speaking Ukrainian, insisting that he was “one of us.”
“He started shouting in Ukrainian, saying, ‘Guys, where are you?’ At first we were silent, but then I asked who he was. In response, he said, ‘I’m looking for my people,’” the soldier recounted.
The man claimed he was supposedly from Ukraine. However, shortly afterward, his enemy radio came on, and he began transmitting coordinates.
“Mamochka” realized he was facing an enemy. At that moment, a round jammed in his rifle, and the enemy seized the opportunity to hide in the bushes.
The soldier with the call sign “Rumin” said that Ukrainian fighters opened fire on the enemy and threw grenades at him. At that moment, several more Russian soldiers emerged from the field.
“They didn’t see us, but we saw them and let them get closer,” “Rumin” noted.
A firefight then broke out. The Russian soldiers tried to throw grenades at the Ukrainian positions, but, according to the soldier, they missed.
This is described in a video by the 1st Separate Assault Regiment named after Dmytro Kotsyubailo, in which soldiers with the call signs “Mamochka” and “Rumin” recounted this incident.
Earlier, near Vovchansk, Ukrainian border guards captured a Russian assault soldier who, after his group was routed, hid near a Ukrainian position. The Russian spent three days in a dugout while the soldiers waited for an opportunity to evacuate him; during that time, the position came under fire from FPV drones, mortars, artillery, and a guided aerial bomb. According to a border guard with the call sign “Greek,” an aerial bomb fell just a few meters from the shelter, but the Ukrainian soldiers and the captive survived.
