Authorities in the Kharkiv region plan to expand the mandatory evacuation zone and evacuate more than 7,000 people
Due to the deteriorating security situation and ongoing Russian shelling, a decision has been made to expand the mandatory evacuation zone in the Zolochiv area of the Kharkiv region.
The decision was made during a meeting of the Regional Defense Council attended by military personnel, rescue workers, law enforcement representatives, and heads of district military administrations.
The expanded evacuation zone includes seven settlements in the Bohodukhiv district:
- the town of Zolochiv;
- the village of Pysarivka;
- the village of Hur’iv;
- the village of Lemishchyne;
- the village of Malyzhine;
- the village of Merlo;
- the village of Morozova Dolyna.
According to Synyegubov, 7,157 residents are subject to evacuation. Among them are 1,702 children and 311 people with limited mobility.
“We must evacuate 7,157 people to safer areas, including 1,702 children and 311 people with limited mobility,” the regional governor said.
The decision to expand the evacuation is linked to systematic attacks by Russian forces on border settlements in the Kharkiv region, which are regularly subjected to artillery fire, airstrikes, and drone attacks.
Regional authorities are urging residents of settlements that have been placed in the mandatory evacuation zone not to delay their departure and to take advantage of assistance from special services to relocate to safer areas of Ukraine.
This was announced by Oleg Synyegubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration.
In Volyn, border defenses with Belarus are being strengthened, and a contingency plan is being prepared in case the situation escalates, including the possible evacuation of residents in border areas. Authorities and the military say the region remains under constant surveillance and is prepared for any scenario. This was stated on the air of “Suspilne Studio” by Olga Cheren, head of the Kovel District Military Administration.
