In the Mykolaiv region, a man was convicted of raping his 14-year-old niece

A court in the Mykolaiv region found a man guilty of raping his 14-year-old niece and sentenced him to 10 years in prison. During the trial, the defendant did not admit guilt, but the court concluded that the evidence gathered confirmed his guilt.

A court in Mykolaiv Oblast handed down a verdict against a man accused of raping his own 14-year-old niece. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General. According to the investigation, the crime took place on March 26, 2025. The defendant is a military serviceman with a prior criminal record. The investigation established that the man raped the girl in his car. The victim managed to escape only when another car drove by.

Afterward, the girl first told her aunt and then her mother about what had happened. She subsequently reported the incident to law enforcement. During the investigation, investigators interviewed witnesses who had seen the girl immediately after the incident. In addition, the crime scene and the car were examined, and forensic medical, immunological, and psychological examinations were ordered. All of this evidence became part of the case file.

During the trial, the man did not admit his guilt. He claimed that the victim herself had allegedly engaged in sexual acts with him, and that the charges, according to him, were linked to the family’s “difficult financial situation.” The court did not accept these arguments. “The court found these arguments to be unfounded,” the Office of the Prosecutor General reported.

As a result, the man was found guilty of rape under Part 3 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced to 10 years in prison. At the same time, the prosecutor’s office noted that it has already filed an appeal. It is seeking an additional penalty for the convicted man—the revocation of his special military rank.

The verdict may be reviewed on appeal. Until it becomes final, the parties have the right to appeal it in accordance with Ukrainian law. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

As a reminder, as a result of the Russian shelling of Kyiv on the night of July 30, the stained-glass windows of the underground passage pavilion at the “Pochayna” metro station were damaged.

On the night of July 30, 2026, Russia carried out one of its largest combined strikes against Ukraine, deploying 358 air attack weapons—including various types of missiles and strike drones. Air defense forces destroyed or neutralized 320 aerial targets.
