The situation on the Kharkiv–Sumy highway in northern Ukraine has deteriorated
Russian forces have begun attacking the highway between Kharkiv and Sumy in an attempt to disrupt logistics in northern Ukraine. As a result, drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution when traveling along this route.
Since early June 2026, Russian occupation forces have been deliberately targeting the transport link between Kharkiv and Sumy in an attempt to disrupt logistics routes in the border region. Serhiy “Flash” Beskrestnov, an advisor to Ukraine’s Minister of Defense, reported this on his Telegram channel, emphasizing that the enemy fully understands the significance of such strikes and deliberately chooses them as a means of applying pressure.
According to Beskrestnov, Russian forces have concentrated on a section of road near Bohodukhiv, which is located closest to the border with Russia—approximately 20 kilometers away. It is this proximity, as noted, that allows the enemy to strike transport flows more quickly and create additional risks for civilian traffic.

The advisor to the Minister of Defense emphasized that the situation requires not just formal advice, but a genuine rethinking of security approaches in this area. “Asking drivers to be careful in this situation sounds pointless; we need to think about what to do,” he noted.
Ukrainian military officials and experts have repeatedly emphasized that logistics routes are becoming one of the key targets of Russian attacks, as supplies, evacuations, and the stability of frontline regions depend on them.
Against this backdrop, the attacks on the Kharkiv–Sumy road are seen as yet another means of exerting pressure on the northern front, where active fighting continues.
