In the temporarily occupied Kherson region, a woman was sentenced to 12 years in prison for treason
In the temporarily occupied territory of the Kherson region, a Russian-controlled “court” handed down an unlawful sentence to local resident Natalia Povetkina.
This was reported by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center.
The woman was found guilty of espionage and sentenced to 12 years in a general-regime penal colony.
According to the occupation authorities’ investigation, in May 2023, Natalia allegedly gathered classified information about the deployment locations of Russian invaders.
The Russian side claims that the woman acted in the interests of Ukrainian intelligence, using messaging apps for communication.
The occupying authorities claim that “the information transmitted could have been used to strike Russian forces” in the region.
In addition to a lengthy prison sentence, the illegal “court” imposed an additional punishment on the woman. After her release from prison, her freedom will be restricted for a period of one year, and she is also required to pay a “fine of 100,000 rubles.”
