The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has recorded its 15th blackout since the start of the occupation
On Sunday, April 26, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant once again experienced a blackout due to the loss of external power. This marks the 15th such incident since the start of the Russian occupation in 2022.
This was reported by Energoatom on Telegram.
According to the company, the cause was a disconnection of the “Ferosplavna-1” power line. After that, the plant switched to power from backup diesel generators.
“The ‘Ferosplavna-1’ power line was disconnected, causing the plant to go into blackout mode. For an hour and a half, the plant was powered by 19 backup diesel generators,” the statement said.
Energoatom emphasizes that every such incident creates additional risks to nuclear and radiation safety not only for Ukraine but for all of Europe.
“The situation once again confirms the need to return the plant as soon as possible to the full control of Ukraine and its legitimate operator—Energoatom—which is the only guarantee of the safe operation of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant,” the company noted.
Earlier, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant resumed operations on Ukraine’s power grid after a one-and-a-half-hour interruption in external power supply.
