In Zaporizhzhia region, Russians are trying to enter Malokaterynivka; Ukrainian Armed Forces repel attacks
Russian occupying forces are making isolated attempts to infiltrate the settlement of Malokaterynivka in the Zaporizhzhia region, which effectively serves as a suburb of the regional center.
This was stated by Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces.
According to the DeepState map, a “gray zone” has already approached Malokaterynivka. However, Voloshyn said there is still some distance between Ukrainian positions and the enemy. On January 4, fighting continued in Plavni, and clashes are also taking place in Prymorske.
“Mostly there are summer cottage areas there, with no large capital buildings… Enemy infiltration groups are trying to enter and advance as far as possible, taking advantage of the fact that the Kakhovka Reservoir no longer exists and movement is possible ‘along the bottom,’” the spokesperson explained.

Some Russian groups have already attempted to move “along the bottom” of the former reservoir, cross the Konka River, and enter Malokaterynivka from the east. “There were even several combat engagements there, because we are conducting reconnaissance-and-search and search-and-strike operations, destroying such groups,” Voloshyn added.
He also noted that a large number of Russian drones are constantly present in the sky over Malokaterynivka, and their number is increasing every day.
“This is already a frontline settlement. The enemy is trying to fully take control of Prymorske and use it as a location to concentrate assault groups that then move toward Stepnohirsk. The situation there is quite difficult,” Voloshyn explained.
He added that the enemy will continue attempting—and such attempts have already been recorded—to cross the Konka River and enter Malokaterynivka, as the main objective of Russian forces is to get as close as possible to the outskirts of Zaporizhzhia.
Russian occupation forces continue their offensive in the Donetsk region. According to DeepState, the enemy has advanced in the areas of Fedorivka and Novomarkove in the Bakhmut and Kramatorsk districts. A map of the advance has been published by the resource.
