A nighttime drone attack halted training exercises and factory operations in Samara
On the night of April 23, 2026, Russia’s Samara Region came under a massive drone attack.
The regional governor reported an “attack by enemy drones,” which resulted in one fatality in Novokuybyshevsk, where strategic oil facilities are located.
In addition, debris was reported to have fallen on a residential area in Samara itself, causing injuries among civilians.
In Novokuybyshevsk, where Rosneft’s facilities are concentrated, the drone attack damaged industrial sites.
According to preliminary data from Russian emergency services, one employee was killed and several others were injured there.
The local administration has not specified the names of the affected enterprises but emphasizes the significant impact on production operations.
An emergency response headquarters has been established in the region to extinguish fires and assess damage to infrastructure that supplies fuel to the occupying forces.
The situation in the regional center also remains tense: debris from one of the drones struck the roof of an apartment building.
As a result of the incident, two people were injured on the city streets, one of whom was taken to a medical facility in moderate condition.
Russian authorities traditionally claim that damage to civilian facilities is the result of their air defense operations.
Currently, rescue workers are continuing to inspect damaged apartments and surrounding areas for unexploded ordnance.
Due to the nighttime explosions and the threat of further attacks, authorities in Samara and Novokuybyshevsk were forced to make emergency changes to the school schedule.
Classes for the first shift were canceled and moved to the second shift to give emergency services time to inspect the buildings.
