Novovasylivka remains under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces despite statements by Russia
The Russian side has circulated information claiming to have captured Novovasylivka, but the Ukrainian military has stated that the village remains fully under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The 16th Army Corps of the Ukrainian Armed Forces says this is yet another disinformation campaign with no confirmation from the ground.
Ukrainian military officials denied Russian reports of the alleged capture of Novovasylivka in the Velyka Burlutka sector, emphasizing that such claims are not backed by any evidence, and that the actual situation on the ground looks entirely different from how Russian propaganda is trying to portray it.
The 16th Army Corps of the Ukrainian Armed Forces noted that the enemy did indeed attempt to enter the settlement a few days ago, but these actions were detected in advance, after which the assault groups were subjected to a combined strike, which thwarted the attempt to advance.
The military’s statement notes that Russian sources themselves acknowledge the lack of battlefield evidence; specifically, one of the Z-channels stated that “there are no objective surveillance footage yet,” which effectively casts doubt on the very fact of the “capture.”
According to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as a result of the failed attack, some Russian troops were eliminated, one was taken prisoner, and others scattered into the forest, where the search for them continues, while the area itself remains under constant control by Ukrainian forces. The military also reported that on May 27–28, the enemy actively employed aerial reconnaissance in an attempt to assess the situation following the failed assault; however, due to coordination and radio communication issues, no logistical support was observed in that area.
The 16th Army Corps emphasized that, against the backdrop of failed operations, demoralization is growing among Russian units, with panic and instances of refusal to carry out orders being reported, while Novovasylivka, according to official data, “remains under the full control of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.”
The Russian army is already experiencing a shortage of personnel on the front lines — Gnatov.
The occupiers complain that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are cutting off the land corridor to Crimea with drones.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces eliminated another 1,020 Russian soldiers on the front lines over the past 24 hours.
