The occupiers announced the detention of two alleged GUR agents in Crimea

Russian security forces reported the detention in the temporarily occupied Crimea of two men accused of allegedly collaborating with the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense. There is no independent confirmation of these claims.

This was reported on the “Crimea Realities” Telegram channel, citing Russian media outlets that quote the Public Relations Center of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).

It is alleged that the men, born in 1968 and 1986, were supposedly collecting and sending via Telegram information about the deployment of Russian military facilities and critical infrastructure on the Crimean Peninsula, as well as on the movement of trains across the Kerch Strait transport crossing.

In addition, Russian security forces claim that the men attempted to retrieve a homemade explosive device (HED) from a hiding place, allegedly to later plant explosives on the railroad tracks.

The first and last names of the detainees have not been disclosed. On July 2, the FSB of the Russian Federation also released a video of the arrest, in which a man with his face blurred—presented as one of the detainees— repeats on camera the version of events put forward by Russian security forces, adding that he was detained in November 2024 while attempting to retrieve the IED. This video may have been recorded under duress, and it is impossible to verify the accuracy of the FSB’s claims using alternative sources amid the war. There are currently no comments from the second man, the publication reports.
