On Sunday, August 9, Pope Leo XIV called for an end to the Russian-Ukrainian war and for compliance with international humanitarian law. The pontiff made this statement during his address to the faithful at the Sunday “Angelus” prayer.

Leo XIV noted that the number of tragic incidents is rising, and with it, the number of civilian casualties, particularly among children.

“I once again make a sincere appeal for compliance with international humanitarian law and an end to attacks on civilian targets by both sides,” the Pope emphasized.

He also called for an end to the war and for the protection of civilians from the consequences of hostilities.

This was reported by Reuters.

As a reminder, Pope Leo XIV will meet in France with victims of violence perpetrated by the clergy.
