Amstor caught fire again in Zaporizhzhia following a Russian strike
On September 22, Russian troops once again struck the “Amstor” shopping center in Zaporizhzhia. The building’s roof caught fire after being hit, but this time, according to the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, no one was injured.
On Tuesday, September 22, Russian forces attacked the Amstor shopping center in the Pivdennyi district of Zaporizhzhia. A fire broke out in the shopping center following the strike. Initial reports mentioned only a fire, but the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration later clarified that it was the roof of the “Amstor” that was on fire.
According to the Regional Military Administration, no one was injured as a result of this attack. Photos released show thick smoke rising above the shopping center. Signs of fire damage are visible on the roof and in certain parts of the building. Information regarding the extent of the damage is currently being verified.
This is not the first time Russia has attacked “Amstor”
This is not the first Russian attack on the shopping complex in Zaporizhzhia in recent days. On the evening of September 17, Russian troops had already struck “Amstor.” That attack sparked a massive fire. Rescue workers had to extinguish a fire covering an area of more than 10,000 square meters. According to the State Emergency Service, the shopping center was virtually destroyed by the fire.
People were near the building during that attack. In particular, according to Suspilne Zaporizhzhia, children from a skate park were nearby at the time. Now, “Amstor” has come under attack again. This time, the fire engulfed the roof of the building, and there are no reports of casualties.
Shopping centers in Zaporizhzhia are under attack
In recent days, Russian forces have repeatedly attacked shopping centers and other civilian targets in Zaporizhzhia. On the night of September 21, Russian FPV drones and attack drones struck the Intrade shopping center on Soborny Avenue. The strikes sparked a fire that destroyed the building.
On the same night, other facilities in central Zaporizhzhia were damaged. In particular, a high-rise residential building and the oldest building of Zaporizhzhia National University were hit. Local authorities say that Russian strikes not only damage buildings but also create problems for the city’s residents. Because of the attacks, people may lose their jobs, and stores may lose their inventory. The Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration has urged residents to remain calm and not to ignore air raid sirens.
What is known about the consequences of the latest strike
Currently, there are reports of a fire on the roof of “Amstor.” According to preliminary information, no one was injured as a result of this attack. Other consequences of the strike are still being assessed. Information regarding damage to the shopping center itself and the surrounding area is also being verified.
Russian attacks on Zaporizhzhia continue amid regular shelling of the city and the region. Residential buildings, businesses, stores, educational institutions, and other civilian infrastructure are under attack. Local authorities continue to urge residents to remain in safe places during air raid alerts and not to disregard safety rules. Ukrainian defense forces have regained control of new areas of territory between Dvorichna and Zapadny in the Kharkiv region.
