A captured Russian soldier said in an interview that he had deliberately gone to war, viewing it as a way to settle scores with life.
He made this statement during a conversation with Dmytro Karpenko.
According to the 35-year-old man, he signed a contract in Nizhny Novgorod and explained his motivation with the phrase: “I wanted to die.”
He admitted that he had previously attempted to take his own life but survived, sustaining serious injuries, including a head injury and a heart attack.
The occupier said that due to these injuries, he had problems with speech, memory, and overall health. After the start of another wave of mobilization, he decided to use the war as an alternative to suicide.
During combat operations, the man suffered a concussion, which further worsened his condition.
It is noted that following the prisoner exchange, he is returning to Russia.
Ukraine conducted another prisoner exchange, resulting in 193 Ukrainian servicemen returning home.
All 11 Ukrainian prisoners of war whom Russia handed over to Hungary in 2023 subsequently left the country. Most of them returned to Ukraine, while the rest left for other countries.
