More than 230 combat engagements took place on the front lines over the past 24 hours – General Staff

Over the past 24 hours, there were 234 combat engagements between the Ukrainian Defense Forces and Russian troops, with the Russian army’s heaviest pressure recorded in the Pokrovsk and Huliaipole sectors. Over the course of yesterday, the Russians carried out 95 airstrikes using 300 guided bombs and deployed 9,645 kamikaze drones. 

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Facebook. In total, Ukrainian defenders’ positions and populated areas came under fire 3,305 times; specifically, the enemy opened fire with multiple launch rocket systems 74 times.

Numerous areas were subjected to airstrikes by Russian forces, including Vilna Sloboda and Bachivsk in the Sumy region. Additionally, according to military command, Russian forces are using a main gas pipeline to transport their assault groups during combat operations on the southern sector of the front.

Over the past 24 hours, 17 combat engagements took place in the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk sectors. In this sector of the front, the invaders carried out five airstrikes, used 11 guided bombs, and shelled Ukrainian positions and populated areas 105 times, including 15 times with multiple launch rocket systems.

In the Southern Slobozhanskyi sector, Russian forces launched seven assaults on defenders’ positions in the areas of Vovchansk, Radkivka, Hraniv, Izbytske, and Starytsia.

In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled three enemy attacks in the areas of Novoosynove, Kurylivka, and Podoly.

In the Lyman direction, the Defense Forces repelled nine attempts by the Russian army to advance in the areas of Stepove, Novyi Mir, Stavky, Drobysheve, Yampil, Lyman, and Ozerny.

In the Sloviansk direction over the past day, Ukrainian defenders stopped three enemy attempts to advance in the areas of Zakitne and Rai-Oleksandrivka.

In the Kramatorsk sector, defenders repelled one Russian attack in the Nikiforivka area.

In the Kostiantynivka sector, the Russian army launched 12 attacks near Kostiantynivka, Ivanopil, Illinivka, and Stepanivka.

In the Pokrovsk direction, the Defense Forces repelled 32 enemy assaults in the areas of Vilne, Kucherevy Yar, Zolotyi Kolodiaz, Novyi Shakhovyi, Bilytske, Hryshyne, Vasylivka, Novomykolaivka, Rodynske, Novooleksandrivka, Boikivka, Toretske, Udachne, Serhiivka, and Molodetske.

In the Oleksandrivka and Orikhiv directions, the invaders did not conduct any offensive operations yesterday.

In the Huliaipole sector, Russian troops carried out 24 attacks in the areas of Dobropillia, Verkhnia Tersa, Zlagoda, Hirkyi, Krynychne, Staroukrainka, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, and Charivne.

In the Dnipro direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled two attacks by the Russian Federation’s army toward Antonivka.

In the Volyn and Polissya sectors, no signs of enemy offensive groupings were detected.

Over the past 24 hours, on May 16, the Ukrainian Defense Forces killed and wounded 1,170 Russian occupiers. The enemy’s total losses in the war have reached 1,348,790 personnel. 

Prior to this, the Ukrainian Armed Forces eliminated another 1,020 Russian troops on the front lines over the past 24 hours.

The occupiers complain that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are cutting off the land corridor to Crimea with drones.
