The Air Force explained how Belarusian relay stations helped Russia control the Shahed drones

Russian troops used relay stations on Belarusian territory to control attack drones in real time and change targets while the drones were already in flight.

This was reported by Yuriy Ignat, head of the Communications Department of the Ukrainian Air Force.

According to him, the relay stations, located near the Ukrainian border, enabled signal transmission over long distances. Thanks to this, Russian operators received real-time video from the drones and were able to quickly adjust strike coordinates.

Ignat noted that this system allowed the occupiers to attack not only stationary but also moving targets, including trains and mobile fire groups.

After these repeaters were shut down, the Russian forces’ ability to operate drones in real time was significantly reduced. At the same time, drones continue to be used, but it has become much more difficult for them to deliver precision strikes.

In addition, Ukraine must form new brigades to strengthen its defenses along the northern front in light of the potential threat from Belarus and Russia’s intentions to expand the zone of hostilities.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that as of June 22, the relay stations on Belarusian territory that Russian troops had been using to direct strikes against Ukraine are no longer operational.
