Trains in Ukraine have been widely disrupted following the Russian Federation's attack
Following a nighttime Russian attack, a number of Ukrzaliznytsia trains in Ukraine fell significantly behind schedule. As of 10:36 a.m., the longest delays exceeded 12 hours, while some trains were running 4–6 hours late. Separately, Ukrzaliznytsia reported that a Russian drone struck the locomotive of the Sumy–Kyiv train. No one was injured, but one car was damaged.
According to Ukrzaliznytsia’s service, as of 10:36 a.m., the following trains were the most delayed:
- No. 87/88 Dnipro-Holovnyi – Kovel-Pas — 12 hours and 51 minutes;
- No. 41/42 Dnipro-Holovnyi–Lviv — 12 hours and 33 minutes;
- No. 83/84 Lviv – Dnipro-Holovnyi — 6 hours and 41 minutes late;
- No. 23/24 Chełm – Kyiv-Passenger Station — 6 hours and 16 minutes late.
Several other trains are running with delays of more than five hours. Among them are trains No. 79/80 Dnipro-Holovnyi – Lviv and No. 23/24 Kyiv-Pas. – Chełm. Trains No. 119/120 Dnipro-Holovnyi – Chełm, No. 765/766 Odesa-Holovna – Kyiv-Pas., and No. 119/120 Chełm – Dnipro-Holovnyi are delayed by more than four hours.
The train schedule is subject to change, so passengers should check the current arrival and departure times before traveling.
Drone Hits Locomotive of Sumy–Kyiv Train
Ukrzaliznytsia also reported a separate incident involving the Sumy–Kyiv train. A Russian drone struck the locomotive. According to preliminary reports, there were no injuries. However, one car was damaged.
“Railway workers are working to ensure that schedule disruptions on this section are kept to a minimum,” Ukrzaliznytsia stated. Railway workers continue to work on restoring normal service and minimizing delays.
How Russia Attacked Ukraine Overnight
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, on Friday night, Russia attacked Ukraine with six ballistic missiles and S-400 anti-aircraft guided missiles, as well as 151 attack drones. Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed or neutralized 135 enemy UAVs.
At the same time, missile strikes and 13 attack drones were recorded at 12 locations. Debris from downed targets fell at seven additional sites. The Air Force also noted that several missiles failed to reach their targets. Information regarding the consequences of the attack is being clarified. Due to the aftermath of the nighttime strike by Russian forces, train service across Ukraine remains disrupted, and some trains are still running with significant delays. This is stated in the train schedule information on the company’s website.
On the night of August 8, Russian forces attacked the Kyiv region with strike drones. As a result of the attack in the village of Pukhivka, three members of the same family were killed—a grandfather, a grandmother, and their three-year-old grandson.
In addition, a Russian drone struck the locomotive of a train traveling from Sumy to Kyiv. Passengers were evacuated in time, so there were no casualties.
On the night of August 7–8, Russian forces carried out a massive attack with strike drones on the Dnipropetrovsk region. Six districts in the region were targeted, and one person was wounded.
On the night of August 8, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with six Iskander-M ballistic missiles, S-400 anti-aircraft guided missiles, and 151 attack drones.
In Mykolaiv on August 7, a civilian vessel in the port was damaged as a result of an attack by Russian drones. No one was injured.
Over the past 24 hours, Russian forces carried out 978 strikes on the Zaporizhzhia region. Three civilians were killed and four others were wounded as a result of the attacks.
The day before, Russian forces attacked the grounds of a hospital in central Kherson with a drone. Four female medical workers were injured; all suffered blast injuries and concussions.
On the night of July 19, Russian forces launched a ballistic missile strike on Kyiv. One person was killed and eight others were injured as a result of the attack. Damage and fires were reported in five districts of the capital.
Throughout the day on July 17, Russian forces carried out strikes on Kharkiv and 29 other settlements in the Kharkiv region. Two people were killed and 18 others were injured as a result of the shelling; among the injured were five children.
