Ukraine’s Air Defence Shot Down 161 Enemy Drones During Overnight Attack
During the night of 9 March, Russian occupation forces carried out a large-scale air attack against Ukraine, using ballistic weapons and a record number of unmanned aerial vehicles.
Despite the intensity of the strike from several directions, Ukraine’s air defence forces managed to destroy the majority of the enemy targets.
According to official information from the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the enemy launched two Iskander-M ballistic missiles from the territory of temporarily occupied Crimea.
The enemy also launched 197 attack drones of various types, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and other modifications.
Approximately 120 of the total number of unmanned aerial vehicles were Shahed-type kamikaze drones.
The launches were carried out simultaneously from six different directions, aiming to overload Ukraine’s air defence system as much as possible.
Aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups were involved in repelling the air attack.
Thanks to the coordinated work of the air defenders, a high interception rate of enemy targets was achieved.
As of the morning, air defence units reported 161 enemy drones destroyed or suppressed using electronic warfare systems.
Most of the combat activity took place in the northern, southern, and eastern regions of the country, where the enemy attempted to strike infrastructure facilities.
Despite the high effectiveness of the defence, two ballistic missiles and 36 attack drones hit their targets. Authorities also reported debris from intercepted targets falling at one location, causing some damage.
Earlier, Russian forces launched a massive attack on the border areas of Chernihiv region.
Russian drones also struck an industrial facility in Poltava region.
