Air defense shoots down over 100 Russian drones on Christmas Eve
On the night of December 25, Ukrainian air defense successfully repelled a massive Russian drone attack.
According to the Ukrainian Air Forces, the enemy launched 131 strike UAVs of various types, including Shahed, Gerbera, and others.
The attack came from multiple directions — Kursk, Oryol, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, occupied Donetsk, and temporarily occupied Hvardiiske and Chauda in Crimea.
By 8:30 a.m., air defense had neutralized 106 enemy drones over northern, southern, and eastern regions of Ukraine.
The defense involved aviation, surface-to-air missile units, electronic warfare and UAV units, as well as mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces. Despite the strong air defense response, some drones penetrated the defenses.
Preliminary reports indicate that 22 strike drones hit targets at 15 different locations across the country. The Air Forces noted that enemy drone attacks continue, so the threat remains active.
The situation regarding the impact of the strikes is still being clarified, and information on possible casualties and damage is being verified by local authorities and emergency services.
Recall that Russian forces previously attacked a cemetery in Cherkasy on Christmas Eve. They also struck Zaporizhzhia with drones and guided aerial bombs munitions, injuring five people.
