Russian propaganda claimed to have captured a village in the Kharkiv region that hasn't existed for nearly 30 years
Russian propaganda is spreading information about the alleged capture of the village of Shcherbakivka in the Kharkiv region; however, this settlement was officially dissolved back in 1997.
Russian propaganda outlets are actively circulating a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense regarding the alleged “successful capture” of Shcherbakivka in the Kharkiv region.
The Center for Counter-Disinformation emphasized that this is yet another example of Russian disinformation aimed at creating the illusion of a supposedly continuous and successful offensive by Russian troops across all sectors of the front.
In reality, the village of Shcherbakivka was officially dissolved back in 1997, as there were no residents left there at that time.
Thus, such a settlement does not legally or factually exist in Ukraine today.
The Center for Public Diplomacy noted that the Russian General Staff and Ministry of Defense have repeatedly claimed the alleged “capture” of Ukrainian settlements, which did not correspond to the actual situation.
In particular, Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation, has repeatedly claimed that Kupiansk and Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi had been completely captured, although, according to the Ukrainian side, Russian troops do not control these settlements.
The Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) urged the public to approach statements from Russian propaganda outlets with skepticism and to verify information about the situation on the front lines using official Ukrainian sources.

As a reminder, Russian forces have changed their tactics regarding the use of North Korean ballistic missiles against Ukraine. Instead of massive salvos, Russia has begun carrying out isolated launches, which may be related to a change in the nature of the attacks or the specifics of how these missile stocks are being used.
