Putin signed a law regarding participants in the war against Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law providing financial benefits for participants in the war against Ukraine and their families. According to the document, this includes exemption from repayment of overdue loans, which, as noted, could be used as an additional incentive to encourage citizens to participate in combat operations.
This is reported by Russian Telegram channels.
The document applies to those who have signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense starting May 1, 2026, for a term of at least one year. The total debt of such servicemen and their spouses must not exceed 10 million rubles. Debt forgiveness will be possible only for loans taken out prior to signing the contract, provided there is a court decision that has entered into force regarding debt collection or the issuance/presentation of a writ of execution.
Putin first allowed occupiers and their relatives to avoid repaying overdue loans in November 2024. At that time, the provision applied to debt on loans taken out before December 1 of that year. In the event of an occupier’s death at the front or due to disability, injury, trauma, or concussion, as well as if he is granted Group I disability, all credit obligations of his family members are subject to termination—regardless of when exactly he was drafted or signed a contract.
