Satellite images have confirmed damage to the Grushovaya oil depot in Novorossiysk

New satellite images have been released online showing the aftermath of a successful drone attack carried out on the night of May 23 against the "Grushovaya" oil depot (the "Sheshkharis" transshipment complex) in Novorossiysk, Krasnodar Krai, Russia.

According to investigators and information from Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, at least two large storage tanks for petroleum products were damaged on the facility’s grounds as a result of precision strikes.

The “Grushovaya Balka” oil depot is the largest oil storage facility in the Caucasus and a strategic hub for the Novorossiysk oil port, capable of holding over 1.2 million tons of fuel. A large-scale fire and temperature anomalies at the terminal were also recorded by NASA’s FIRMS satellite monitoring system. Meanwhile, against the backdrop of yet another strike on its critical energy infrastructure, the Russian Ministry of Defense issued an absurd statement claiming that Russian air defenses had allegedly shot down a record 348 Ukrainian drones overnight, traditionally attributing the destruction of the tanks to “falling debris.”

Following a drone attack near Novorossiysk on May 23, a fire broke out at one of Russia’s main oil export hubs on the Black Sea. "Grushova Balka" is the largest oil storage facility in the entire Caucasus, which accumulates raw materials for export via Novorossiysk and includes more than 60 tanks with a total capacity of about 1.2 million tons.

The General Staff confirmed the destruction of the occupiers’ terminal, oil depot, and a tanker belonging to the Russian Federation’s shadow fleet.
