A rocket strike in the Kyiv region killed 10 people and wounded about 100
On the afternoon of July 24, Russia launched a ballistic missile strike on a private training ground in the Kyiv region, where an event involving representatives of the Ukrainian defense industry was taking place. At least 10 people were killed in the attack, and about 100 more were injured. Law enforcement authorities have opened two criminal investigations—one into a war crime committed by the Russian Federation and another into possible official negligence during the organization of the event.
On July 24, Russian troops launched a ballistic missile strike on Kyiv and the surrounding region. One of the missiles struck a private training ground where representatives of the Ukrainian defense industry were present at the time. According to the Air Force, Russia launched three ballistic missiles at Ukraine. Ukrainian air defenses managed to shoot down one of them. It later became known that the strike hit the training ground where the event was taking place. The Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported that this information is currently being verified.
How many people were killed and injured
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy provided the initial details on the attack’s aftermath. At that time, the report mentioned six fatalities and dozens of injuries. The death toll later rose. According to Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, as of 3:00 p.m., there were 10 confirmed fatalities and about 100 injured. “We are facing the tragic consequences of yet another Russian strike. The number of fatalities and casualties is being verified,” officials reported after the attack.
Two criminal cases have been opened
Following the strike, law enforcement officials launched an investigation into the Russian shelling. The cases were opened under the article on war crimes—violations of the laws and customs of war. In addition, the Office of the Prosecutor General opened another criminal case regarding possible dereliction of duty during the organization of the event.
According to Ruslan Kravchenko, the investigation must determine who made the decision to hold the event, who determined the location and time of the event, and what security measures were in place under martial law. “The investigation will determine who made the decision to hold the event, who approved the location, time, and format of the event, what security measures were in place, and whether the risks were properly assessed under martial law,” the Prosecutor General noted.
Law enforcement agencies are currently continuing to gather information about the circumstances of the tragedy and determine all the details of the attack. Authorities are also finalizing the exact number of fatalities and injuries.
As a reminder, since the beginning of 2026, Ukraine has deployed 1,066 kilometers of anti-drone defenses along key logistics routes. Such defenses help ensure the safer delivery of ammunition, equipment, and supplies, as well as the evacuation of the wounded from frontline areas.
