Russia has attacked substations critical to nuclear safety 155 times — Shmyhal
Since the start of the full-scale war, Russian forces have attacked substations in Ukraine—which are critical to nuclear safety—155 times.
This was reported by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal.
According to him, these are facilities that ensure the delivery of electricity from nuclear power plants to the power grid.
Shmyhal emphasized that each such strike creates risks of emergency shutdowns, destabilization of the power grid, and threats to the safe operation of nuclear reactors.
He also stressed the need to strengthen air defense to protect energy infrastructure, particularly against ballistic missiles and drones.
Additionally, Ukraine is calling for tougher sanctions against the Russian energy sector, including restrictions on Rosatom and the suspension of Russia’s membership in the IAEA Board of Governors.
In the Kharkiv region, the past 24 hours were marked by intense Russian shelling, which killed a 61-year-old woman and injured seven others, including a one-and-a-half-year-old child; the strikes hit both Kharkiv and a number of settlements in the region.
Following a nighttime attack on Dnipro, rescue workers recovered the bodies of two victims from the rubble of a destroyed building; however, according to preliminary data, people may still be trapped under the debris, and search operations continue. The number of casualties has risen to 21; medical personnel continue to provide assistance, and all emergency services are on the scene.
