Russia is attacking Kharkiv with drones; fires and destruction are being reported across the city
On the night of April 2 and into the morning, Russian forces attacked Kharkiv with strike drones, causing fires in the city.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported this on Telegram.
“The enemy struck the Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv with a ‘Shahed.’ There is a fire at the site of the strike. We are clarifying other details,” the message reads.
Terekhov clarified that one of the strikes caused several cars to catch fire. Most of the strikes were directed at the Kyivskyi district.
“It can be concluded that the enemy was targeting critical infrastructure,” he added.
According to the mayor, six strikes on Kharkiv were recorded between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m.
Ukraine’s air defense forces shot down 147 out of 172 drones used by Russian troops to attack the country’s territory starting the evening of April 1.
Throughout April 1, Ukrainian air defenders repelled a large-scale daytime attack, neutralizing 345 of 361 Russian drones.
