Russia attacked Ukraine with 128 drones; air defense forces shot down 106 drones
On the night of August 17, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 128 strike drones.
Air defense forces shot down or neutralized 106 enemy UAVs.
According to the Air Force, the attack began at 6:00 p.m. on August 16. Russian forces used:
- Shahed-type attack drones, including jet-powered ones;
- “Gerbera” drones;
- “Parody”-type decoy drones.
The launches were carried out from the Kursk, Orel, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk regions in Russia, as well as from the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region.
The air attack was repelled by the Ukrainian Air Force, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
As of 08:30, Ukrainian air defense had shot down or neutralized 106 enemy UAVs in the north, south, and east of the country.
“According to preliminary data, as of 08:30, air defense forces have shot down or neutralized 106 enemy UAVs of the Shahed and Gerber types, as well as other types of drones, in the north, south, and east of the country. Enemy drones were recorded striking 14 locations, and debris from downed drones was found at two locations,” the Ukrainian Air Force reported.
At the same time, the air attack was still ongoing: as of the time of the report, several enemy drones remained in the airspace.

In Izium, Kharkiv Oblast, five people were injured as a result of a Russian airstrike. The enemy also damaged at least 15 residential buildings.
Since the evening of August 16, the Russian army has attacked four districts of the Dnipropetrovsk region nearly 20 times. Five people were wounded as a result of the enemy strikes.
In Kherson, power outages occurred as a result of yet another round of Russian shelling.
