Russia May Launch an Offensive in the Chernihiv Region: The State Border Guard Service Assesses the Risks to the Northern Regions

The State Border Guard Service stated that Russia may attempt to intensify hostilities in northern Ukraine not only from Belarusian territory but also directly from its own territory. The Chernihiv region is cited as one of the possible targets.

According to State Border Guard Service spokesperson Andriy Demchenko, there are currently no signs of a buildup of forces for a large-scale invasion in the Chernihiv region. At the same time, localized attacks or attempts to simulate offensive operations—in order to force Ukraine to redeploy reserves from other sections of the front—cannot be ruled out.

Demchenko also noted that recently, no activity by Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups has been recorded along the border with the Chernihiv region. The situation remains most challenging in the Kharkiv sector, as well as in the border areas of the Sumy region, where active combat operations are ongoing.

As a reminder, on the night of July 6, Ukrainian forces struck a number of Russian logistics targets in the Sea of Azov. According to a report from the 414th Separate Brigade of Unmanned Systems “Madyar’s Birds,” eight tankers belonging to Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet,” as well as a dry cargo ship and a ferry, were struck.

Satellite monitoring detected fires in various areas of the temporarily occupied Crimea. Fires were recorded near power substations in Kurortny and Saki, as well as in the Azov Sea region near Kerch.
