Russia attempts to break into Dronivka using small-group tactics; Ukrainian forces inflict losses

On the Sloviansk direction, Russian occupiers are attempting to infiltrate the village of Dronivka using small-group tactics. The enemy is also trying to bypass Ukrainian positions along the Siversk–Zakitne road, according to the operational command “East.”

“On the Sloviansk direction, the enemy is employing small-group tactics to infiltrate Dronivka, and is attempting to bypass our positions using the Siversk–Zakitne road,” the statement reads.

An increase in enemy activity was also recorded near the settlement of Yampil in Donetsk region.

Ukrainian defense units detect the enemy in advance and immediately strike both personnel and static targets. The command emphasized that coordinated actions of the Ukrainian forces are successfully halting Russian advances toward Dronivka and other settlements.

In the area of responsibility of Operational Command East, the enemy suffered the heaviest losses in the past day: 431 Russian occupiers killed, 1,259 drones of various types destroyed, 102 units of other weapons and equipment, including 1 tank and 1 armored vehicle

Ukrainian forces focus not only on eliminating enemy infantry but also on drone operators; 18 Russian UAV crewswere neutralized in one day.

As of 5 January 2026, daily losses of Russian forces totaled: 990 personnel, over 200 units of equipment, more than 700 drones

On 4 January — the 1,411th day of the full-scale war — 229 combat clashes were recorded along the front line. For the first time since the beginning of the prolonged conflict, the Huliaipole direction surpassed Pokrovsk in the number of clashes, becoming the most intense sector on the entire front.
