Russia plans to develop a large manganese deposit in the occupied part of Zaporizhzhia

The Russian company "Reale Engineering Invest" will begin developing the Bolshe-Tokmak manganese deposit in the occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

This is reported by Russian propaganda media.

The company received a license for mineral extraction in February 2026 and began geological exploration in April. According to the Unified State Register of Legal Entities, 25.1% of the company is owned by a Rostec affiliate—RT-Business Development LLC.

The Bolshoye-Tokmakskoye deposit is among the world’s top five in terms of manganese reserves—1.7 billion tons. For comparison, the Usinskoye deposit in the Kemerovo region has 127.7 million tons, and the Porozhinskoye deposit in the Krasnoyarsk region has 29.46 million tons. At the same time, industrial manganese mining in Russia takes place at only one deposit in Bashkiria, and the country imports over 90% of this metal.

According to estimates, the deposit could supply up to 1.7 million tons of manganese per year, while Russia’s demand stands at 1.3 million tons. It is also reported that a mining and processing plant is already under construction nearby, where plans are in place to create about 3,000 jobs.
