Russia is urgently fortifying the plant that manufactures Su-57 and Su-35 fighter jets due to the threat of attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces
Russia has stepped up efforts to protect one of its most important aviation facilities amid Ukraine’s growing ability to launch long-range strikes against military infrastructure. This refers to the aircraft plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, where Russia’s most advanced Su-57 and Su-35 fighter jets are manufactured.
According to Military Watch, large-scale construction work is also underway at the nearby Dzhemgi Air Base, which serves as a home base for modern combat aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
Satellite images show the nearly completed construction of a new large production facility, as well as numerous reinforced shelters for combat aircraft. These are designed to protect Su-57, Su-35S, and Su-30SM2 fighter jets from potential attacks.
Analysts note that construction is proceeding at a rapid pace. Engineers are erecting some of the protective structures directly around the aircraft already parked on the tarmac, which minimizes downtime for the aircraft while simultaneously enhancing their protection.
According to experts, the new shelters are quite large and can accommodate two or even three fighter jets at a time.
The publication notes that the fortifications at the Komsomolsk Aviation Plant are part of a nationwide program to strengthen the protection of aviation infrastructure. These measures were a response to a series of Ukrainian strikes on military air bases deep within Russian territory, which demonstrated the growing capabilities of Ukraine’s long-range weapons systems.
The Dzhemgi airbase plays a distinct strategic role, as it is home to combat units equipped with Su-35 and Su-57 fighter jets. That is why protecting production facilities and combat aviation has become one of the key priorities of the Russian military command.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Air Force reported the destruction of a Russian combat aircraft. According to preliminary information, it was a Su-34 fighter-bomber, which Russian forces are actively using to strike positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces and frontline cities.
Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) has delivered a new batch of Su-30SM2 multi-role fighters and Su-34 frontline bombers to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
On July 8, the Ukrainian Air Force shot down a Russian Su-35 multi-role fighter in the eastern sector.
