Russia strikes civilian railway infrastructure in Chernihiv and Sumy regions

Russia is carrying out targeted attacks on civilian railway facilities, with the main activity recorded in the Chernihiv and Sumy regions, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba reported.

At Konotop station, a drone damaged a locomotive that was due to be coupled to a passenger train. Near Tereshchenska station in Sumy region, railway tracks were damaged, leading to temporary restrictions on rail traffic while repairs are carried out.

A UAV also struck a service vehicle belonging to railway workers who were travelling to repair the damaged section of track. One worker was injured and taken to hospital, while the other members of the crew were evacuated.

In Chernihiv region, a diesel train was hit at Snovsk station; the resulting fire was quickly extinguished.

According to Kuleba, restoration work is ongoing and train services are being maintained.

Earlier, Russian forces shelled a market in Druzhkivka, killing seven people.

On the night of 1 February, Russian troops carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine, using 90 drones, around 60 of which were Shahed-type attack UAVs.

In Dnipro, two people — a woman and a man — were killed as a result of an enemy drone strike.
