Russia has deployed copies of HIMARS to the front
Russian media report the introduction of a new multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) called “Sarma,” which, according to their claims, is already being used on the front line.
The system is being compared to the American M142 HIMARS, with emphasis on its rapid deployment and withdrawal capabilities, as well as its ability to fire 300 mm rockets at ranges of up to 120 km. This was reported by DEFENSE EXPRESS.
This could pose a threat to Ukrainian positions, particularly given that standard HIMARS munitions typically have a range of up to 80 km.
It is worth noting that under the PURL programme, the United States plans to provide Ukraine with $15 billion in military assistance, including high-tech systems. These supplies are expected to be financed by European partners.
It is also reported that by January 2026, Ukrainian drones had eliminated a significant portion of enemy forces, highlighting the growing role of unmanned systems and the technological advantage of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Recently, Ukraine and the NATO agreed on a defence co-operation roadmap for the current year. Key areas include strengthening air defence, developing the F-16 aviation component, enhancing HIMARS systems, and implementing innovative technologies to secure an advantage on the battlefield.
