Russia attacked Sumy; a woman was killed and a man was wounded
On the evening of September 21, Russian troops launched a series of combined strikes on Sumy. Drones struck a civilian vehicle and an area near a residential building, while aircraft dropped a guided bomb on one of the educational institutions.
An enemy kamikaze drone struck near an apartment building in the Zarichny district of Sumy, where a married couple was present at the time. As a result of the double strike by an FPV drone, a 38-year-old woman was killed instantly. Her 41-year-old husband was hospitalized with multiple injuries.
Less than an hour later, another enemy drone struck a civilian vehicle, causing a fire. State Emergency Service rescuers quickly extinguished all the flames.
During the same time period, the city came under air attack: the Russians dropped a guided aerial bomb (GAB) on one of the educational institutions in the Zarichny district. The facade of the school building was damaged, and windows and doors were shattered. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties among staff or students; the full extent of the attack’s damage is still being assessed.
Rescue workers also inspected the grounds of one of the educational institutions following reports of a possible strike—no fires were found there, and there are reportedly no injuries.

As a result of Russian attacks on September 20 in the Zhytomyr region, a fire broke out at a transportation infrastructure facility, and dry grass also caught fire.
The death toll from Russian attacks in the Kyiv region has risen to four. A child who was injured during a strike on the Vyshhorod district died in the hospital. Among the dead are three children and a woman.
Due to the fires in the Kyiv region, the capital may experience smoke and the smell of burning.
