Wildberries and Ozon have faced a wave of lawsuits following Ukraine's attacks
The Russian marketplaces Wildberries and Ozon have faced a wave of lawsuits from sellers following Ukraine’s strikes on their warehouse infrastructure. Business owners are taking legal action due to damage to the warehouses.
Between July 15 and September 15, RVB LLC, which represents Wildberries, received 599 lawsuits.
It is important to note that this is 53.6% more than during the same period last year.
As for the legal entity Ozon, 236 new lawsuits were filed during this time. Their number was more than double the figure for the same period last year.
Most of the claims are being filed by small companies that sell online. Systematic attacks on Wildberries’ logistics facilities began on July 18, while Ozon’s warehouses began coming under attack on August 25.
The International Association for the Development of Marketplaces and Entrepreneurs stated that more than 400,000 sellers have been affected by the attacks. The association estimates that total losses amount to 600–800 billion rubles.
The Union of Marketplace Sellers (SPM) notes that the number of lawsuits against Wildberries and Ozon has increased due to sellers’ loss of goods.
Mikhail Boldyrev, head of the “Digitalization” practice at KSK Group, noted that some of the legal claims are specifically related to attacks on the marketplaces’ infrastructure.
According to him, Wildberries sellers use damage reports generated by the company itself.
Based on these reports, they file claims and attempt to challenge the platform’s position, as it refuses to acknowledge liability.
Following the attacks on Wildberries and Ozon warehouses, the industry could lose 400 billion rubles.
Meanwhile, Wildberries sellers have reported a delay in payments totaling 20 billion rubles.
Ukrainian drones simultaneously attacked a Lukoil oil refinery and a Wildberries warehouse in Russia.
As a reminder, the Orsk oil refinery in the Orenburg region of Russia completely halted operations following an attack by Ukrainian drones.
