Russia is preparing new textbooks about Ukraine's occupied territories for its schoolchildren

Russian schools plan to provide new textbooks on the history of Ukraine’s Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions. In these publications, the history of the temporarily occupied territories is to be presented in accordance with the Russian historical narrative.

Among the textbooks is “The History of Our Region: Donbas and Novorossiya,” which is intended for students in grades 5–7. Russian authorities plan to distribute these textbooks to schools starting September 1, 2026.

These publications were approved as part of the creation of a new federal list of educational materials for Russian schools.

The list includes textbooks to be used in the educational process within the Russian Federation.
