Sochi was attacked by drones; restrictions were imposed at the airport

On the night of September 14, Sochi and other towns in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai were attacked by drones. Local residents reported a series of powerful explosions and the activation of Russian air defense systems. Flight restrictions were imposed at Sochi Airport due to the attack.

A threat of a drone attack in Sochi and the Sirius Federal Territory had been announced as early as the evening of September 13.

According to local residents, powerful explosions were heard in central Sochi around 2:13 a.m. There were also reports of Russian air defense systems in action.

At around 3:51 a.m., Sochi Mayor Andrei Proshunin stated that the threat of a drone attack persists. He urged residents to remain in safe locations and announced the mobilization of all available defense forces and resources.

A series of explosions was also reported in the Rostov region.

Monitoring sources reported the passage of groups of drones and the activation of Russian air defense systems.

At the same time, speculation spread on local social media that the targets of the attack could have been an oil refinery, an oil depot, or logistics infrastructure in the Sochi area.

However, there is currently no official confirmation regarding the nature of the possible targets.

Similarly, reports circulated about a possible fire following one of the strikes. The cause of the fire and the extent of any damage have not been officially confirmed.

Separately, reports emerged of a possible strike on a Russian S-400 air defense missile system near the resort town of Dagomys.

This information also requires confirmation from official sources.

Flight restrictions were imposed at Sochi Airport following the attack.

As of the morning of September 14, the airport remained closed, according to Russian media reports. However, no specific time was given for when the restrictions would be lifted.

Information regarding the consequences of the attack, including possible hits and damage, is currently being verified.

Russian media outlets are reporting on the attack.

Last night, Ukrainian defense forces struck a number of key military facilities belonging to the Russian occupiers. Among the targets hit were relay stations used to control drones, a radar station, and a storage facility for weapons and equipment.

Recall that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated: Russia, as an aggressor state, will face a response if it strikes Ukraine’s energy system this winter.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported on the results of Ukrainian long-range strikes aimed at weakening Russia’s capacity to wage war against Ukraine. In particular, Ukrainian strikes hit targets in Dagestan and Udmurtia.

The Brave1 platform has developed an air defense system capable of destroying Russian “Banderole” drone missiles. Importantly, it is significantly cheaper than the targets it destroys.
