Russia is stepping up drone attacks on Zaporizhzhia: civilian infrastructure is under attack
Russian occupation forces have sharply intensified their shelling of the Zaporizhzhia region, using a wide range of weapons against the civilian population. Over the past 24 hours, the enemy attacked more than 50 settlements in the region, resulting in four people being wounded. Ukrainian intelligence warns of a Kremlin order to escalate drone attacks against the regional capital.
Late Thursday evening, June 18, a Russian attack drone struck a civilian gas station in Zaporizhzhia itself. The strike caused a massive fire on the premises.
According to Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire. Preliminary reports indicate that no one was injured directly as a result of this strike on the gas station.
However, the overall situation in the region remains tense. In total, 950 strikes were recorded over the past 24 hours across 53 settlements in Zaporizhzhia and the surrounding area. The occupiers fired artillery and multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), carried out airstrikes, and launched a massive number of drones.
Four civilians were wounded. Relevant agencies received 60 reports of damage to or complete destruction of private homes, vehicles, and critical infrastructure.
The situation around the regional center may deteriorate further. According to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense (GUR MO), the Russian military leadership has issued a direct order to significantly increase the supply of attack drones and intensify FPV attacks against Zaporizhzhia.
The city’s civilian infrastructure has been identified as the primary target for enemy kamikaze drones, Glavkom reports.
