Russia attacked civilian ships flying foreign flags in the Black Sea; there is one fatality and several injured — Deputy Prime Minister Kuleba
Russian occupation forces carried out yet another act of terrorism in the Black Sea, attacking civilian merchant ships using unmanned aerial vehicles.
Two foreign ships flying the flags of Panama and St. Kitts and Nevis were damaged as a result of the hostile attack.
The tragedy resulted in the death of one crew member, and five other sailors sustained injuries of varying severity.
Oleksiy Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine and Minister of Community and Territorial Development, officially reported on the details of the nighttime incident.
According to him, the Panamanian vessel bore the brunt of the attack, with the highest number of civilian casualties recorded there.
“As a result of the Russian UAV attack on civilian vessels in the Black Sea, a crew member of the Panamanian-flagged vessel was killed, and two other sailors were injured, one of them seriously. My sincere condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased,” the Ukrainian official said.
The second target of the Russian terrorists was a vessel flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis. There were no fatalities, but three crew members sustained minor injuries and received the necessary medical care.
Ukrainian authorities emphasize that such targeted shelling constitutes a gross violation of international maritime law. The Russian Federation is deliberately attempting to block the operation of humanitarian corridors and completely destroy civilian logistics.
“This is yet another proof that Russia is waging a war against freedom of navigation, international trade, and global food security. Civilian crews, merchant ships, and maritime infrastructure that supports humanitarian and export routes are being targeted,” Oleksiy Kuleba emphasized.
