Russia struck rescue workers in the Zaporizhzhia region again
Russian troops again attacked rescue workers in the Zaporizhzhia region while they were extinguishing a fire in a residential building. The fire was caused by earlier Russian shelling. The emergency responders managed to take cover, but the strike damaged two fire and rescue vehicles.
According to the State Emergency Service, Russian forces launched a drone at the rescue workers while they were working at the scene of the fire. “In the Zaporizhzhia region, Russian troops carried out a cynical second drone strike against rescue workers. The enemy attacked them just as emergency responders were extinguishing a fire in a residential building caused by earlier shelling,” the statement reads. The rescuers managed to take cover. Thanks to this, none of them were injured.
Damaged rescue vehicles
Although no one was injured, the Russian strike damaged the equipment the emergency responders were using. Two fire and rescue vehicles were damaged. The vehicles’ windows were shattered, their tires were punctured, and their bodies were riddled with shrapnel.
At that very moment, the vehicles were being used to extinguish a fire in a residential building. The rescue workers continued working after the attack to deal with the aftermath of the shelling.
Russia Repeatedly Attacks Rescue Workers’ Work Sites
Repeated strikes on locations where rescue workers are operating pose an additional danger to emergency responders. They arrive at the site of the initial strike to help people and extinguish fires, but may find themselves under a new attack. In this case, a Russian drone struck while firefighters were putting out the fire. The rescue workers managed to take cover, so there were no casualties.
The consequences of the attack and the extent of the damage in the Zaporizhzhia region are being assessed. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported the second attack.
