The Zaporizhzhia region is actively preparing for the winter season. According to Mykhailo Semikin, acting head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, the region’s readiness is currently estimated at 90%. He announced this on Sunday. “The main focus for me and the team is preparing for winter. Currently, the region is 90% ready,” Semikin wrote.
At the same time, preparing for the cold weather is not the only task the regional authorities are currently working on. Special attention is being paid to protecting people and infrastructure from Russian FPV drones.

This week, Semikin visited Kherson. There, he learned how people and critical infrastructure are being protected from Russian attacks under challenging conditions. According to him, they plan to apply some of these best practices in the Zaporizhzhia region as well. “This week I visited Kherson, where I studied the experience of protecting people and infrastructure under extremely difficult conditions. We intend to adapt these solutions for use in the Zaporizhzhia region,” the regional governor noted.
These are regions that regularly suffer from Russian strikes and drone attacks. Therefore, local authorities are looking for ways to better protect people, transportation, and infrastructure.

Russian troops are actively using FPV drones to strike military and civilian targets. For the Zaporizhzhia region, which lies near the front lines, this threat remains particularly acute. According to regional authorities, the main priorities remain preparing the region for cold weather and protecting people from Russian attacks. On the night of September 20, the Ukrainian military struck the Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya area. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the strike and stated that one of Russia’s key oil industry facilities had been hit. The General Staff reported that a large-scale fire broke out at the plant following the attack.
The head of state also stated that Russia must end the war against Ukraine. “Moscow must stop building layered air defense rings at the expense of other regions and instead end its brutal war and choose peace,” Zelenskyy said. According to him, there are already possible steps toward de-escalation, particularly in the energy sector and food security. At the same time, the president emphasized the need for political will.
