Defense forces struck Russian air defense systems, radar stations, and drone command posts
The Ukrainian Defense Forces struck several key military targets of the Russian army in the temporarily occupied territories. Among them are a “Buk-M3” anti-aircraft missile system, a “Nebo-U” radar station, a drone production facility, and UAV command posts.
On September 19 and during the night of September 20, Ukrainian defense forces carried out strikes against Russian military facilities in the temporarily occupied territories. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian forces struck a Russian air defense system, a radar station, a drone production facility, and several command centers.
A “Buk-M3” was struck in the Zaporizhzhia region
One of the strikes targeted the area around the village of Ukrainka in the Zaporizhzhia region. There, according to the General Staff, Ukrainian forces struck a Russian “Buk-M3” anti-aircraft missile system. This is one of the Russian army’s systems used for air defense and engaging aerial targets.
"Nebo-U" hit in Donetsk Oblast
Another target was the Russian “Nebo-U” radar station. It was struck near the village of Balka in the Donetsk region, the General Staff reported. Radar stations are used to detect and track aerial targets. Therefore, their operation is crucial to the Russian air defense system.
A drone production facility was struck in Sieversk
Separately, the Ukrainian military struck a drone manufacturing facility near Sieverskodonetsk in Luhansk Oblast. The General Staff did not provide details on the specific types of drones being produced at this facility or the extent of the damage. In addition, the Ukrainian military carried out strikes on Russian command posts. A Russian command and observation post was hit in the Zoryane area of Donetsk Oblast.
Another strike targeted a drone command post in the Staromykhailivka area. Thus, in a single period, the Ukrainian military reported striking several types of key Russian military facilities at once—ranging from an air defense system and a radar station to a drone production facility and command centers. The General Staff did not specify the exact losses suffered by Russian forces as a result of these strikes. Information regarding the consequences may be updated. On the night of September 20, the Ukrainian military struck the Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya area. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the strike and announced that one of Russia’s key oil industry facilities had been destroyed. The General Staff reported that a massive fire broke out at the plant following the attack.
The head of state also stated that Russia must end the war against Ukraine. “Moscow must stop building echeloned air defense rings at the expense of other regions and instead end its brutal war and choose peace,” Zelenskyy said. According to him, there are already possible steps toward de-escalation, particularly in the energy sector and food security. At the same time, the president emphasized the need for political will. Currently, the Ukrainian side continues to develop long-range weapons and strike Russian military and industrial facilities which, according to Ukraine, are linked to supplying its army. On the night of September 19–20, Moscow and the Moscow region came under a massive drone attack. One of the strikes hit the “Gazpromneft-MNPZ” Moscow oil refinery in the Kapotnya area, after which a fire broke out at the facility.
