According to him, all opportunities to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense must be utilized as quickly as possible.
Consequences of the Attack in the Regions
One of the cities that suffered serious consequences from the Russian strike was Sloviansk in the Donetsk region. According to Zelenskyy, on Friday evening, Russian shelling damaged more than ten ordinary residential buildings. Three people were killed as a result of the attack. Several other residents were injured. “Unfortunately, three people were killed,” the president said.
In Sumy, the Russian army attacked the city with a “Shahed” strike drone. After the first strike, the enemy launched a follow-up attack with an FPV drone on a “Nova Poshta” branch. According to Zelenskyy, three people were killed as a result.
Strikes on Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and the Kherson region
In Kharkiv, Russian troops struck a high-rise residential building with a drone. Rescue workers and emergency services were on the scene. In Zaporizhzhia, a regular flea market was destroyed as a result of the attack. This facility had no military significance and was used by civilians.
Russian troops also continue to regularly attack Kherson and settlements in the region. According to the president, the terrorization of civilians using drones is ongoing there. “The terrorization of civilians using drones continues unabated in Kherson and the Kherson region,” Zelenskyy said.
Dozens of settlements were targeted
In addition to the hardest-hit regions, Russian troops also attacked the Poltava, Chernihiv, Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. In various areas, falling debris, damage to buildings, and the activation of air defense systems were reported. The Ukrainian military continues to repel the air attacks; however, due to the large number of missiles launched, some of the strikes are causing damage to civilian infrastructure.
Zelenskyy called for faster strengthening of air defense
The president emphasized that Ukraine needs to expedite the implementation of agreements with partners regarding air defense systems. According to him, protecting the skies is a matter on which the lives of people in cities and villages across the country depend.
“Wherever the authorities can help organize air defense, it must be done,” Zelenskyy said. He also expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and noted that the Russian army could not have been unaware that it was attacking civilian targets.
Russian Attacks on Civilian Targets
Ukrainian authorities regularly report Russian strikes on residential buildings, businesses, commercial facilities, and other civilian infrastructure. According to Zelenskyy, during the latest attack, Russian troops once again struck areas where ordinary people were present.
