The Russians have sharply intensified their strikes on Kherson, with thousands of attacks in a week
Russian troops have significantly increased the intensity of their attacks on Kherson and the community’s settlements. In just one week, the occupiers carried out nearly 2,000 drone attacks, while simultaneously using artillery, guided bombs, and multiple-launch rocket systems.
According to Yaroslav Shank, head of the Kherson City Military Administration, the Russians have launched about 2,000 drones at settlements in the community in just one week.
“Kherson is under fire every day. It is being shelled with the entire arsenal of weapons the Russians have: artillery, guided aerial bombs, MLRS, ‘Shaheds,’ ‘Gerberas,’ ‘Molniyas,’ and FPV drones. Everything is being fired at us. We have casualties almost every day,” he said.
According to Shank, Kherson is formally considered a frontline city, but in reality it lies directly on the front line. Russian positions are located across the Dnipro River—in some places just two kilometers from the city, with an average distance of 2–4 km. Due to the proximity of these positions, Russian troops can shell Kherson with various types of weapons. In particular, according to the head of the Military Administration, the occupiers can even hit the city with tanks.
Russia has intensified its strikes with KAB bombs
Shanko also noted that Russian troops have recently intensified their use of airstrikes against Kherson and the surrounding community. On July 30, the occupiers carried out an airstrike on Kherson. And on August 1, they dropped three guided bombs on the city’s Central District. As a result, one person was killed and about 20 were injured.
After that, Russian forces used airstrikes against settlements in the community several more times. “Guided aerial bombs are a powerful type of weapon with great destructive force. Wherever a KAB or FAB lands, buildings in the surrounding area are completely destroyed or severely damaged, and this poses a major threat to people,” Shanko explained.
At the same time, drone attacks remain the most intense. According to him, on average, the Russians launch about 2,000 drones per week specifically at settlements in the Kherson community.
Drones have become one of the main causes of death
The head of the Military Administration cited statistics for the first half of 2026: 105 people were killed in the Kherson community, and approximately half of them died as a result of drone strikes. In July alone, 32 residents of the community were killed, 29 of them specifically as a result of drone attacks. A total of 464 people were injured, including 16 children.
According to Shanko, Russian troops are using virtually their entire arsenal against Kherson, but the massive use of drones remains one of the greatest threats to the civilian population.
Shanko spoke about this in an interview with “Glavkom.”

In Dnipro on Friday, August 7, a World Health Organization humanitarian warehouse was destroyed as a result of an attack. There were no people on the premises at the time of the strike, and no casualties were reported.
Over the past 24 hours, the occupiers lost 1,130 soldiers and more than 400 pieces of military equipment.
In the Kherson region, one person was killed and two were wounded as a result of Russian shelling.
