Russian court sentences captured Azov fighter to 20 years in a penal colony

Russia’s Southern District Military Court has sentenced Ukrainian prisoner of war Denys Holub, a defender of the Azov unit, to 20 years’ imprisonment on charges of “terrorism”.

This was reported by Mediazona.

Holub was found guilty under two articles — participation in a “terrorist organisation” and “training in terrorism”. He was sentenced to 16 years’ imprisonment for the first charge and a further six years for the second.

The court stated that the final sentence was determined through the partial combination of sentences, resulting in 20 years in a maximum-security penal colony.

Denys Holub is 28 years old and was born in Ivano-Frankivsk. According to the WarTears project, he served as a sniper in the Azov battalion.

In the database of Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, Holub has been listed as missing since 17 May 2022. It is likely that he was captured by Russian forces at that time.

Earlier, the 2nd Eastern District Military Court in Zabaykalsky Krai sentenced 54-year-old Belarusian citizen Serhii Yeremeyev to 22 years’ imprisonment in a case related to the sabotage of trains in the Severomuisk Tunnel on the Baikal–Amur Mainline (BAM).

The 2nd Western District Military Court also sentenced 43-year-old Yevheniia Konforkina from Lyubertsy to 15 years in a penal colony for high treason and participation in a terrorist organisation.
