SBU stops Russian oil platform in the Caspian Sea for the first lime

Ukrainian drones have, for the first time, struck a Russian oil production facility in the Caspian Sea.

Sources from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported that long-range drones from the SBU Special Operations Center “Alpha” attacked the Filanovsky platform, operated by Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft.

The attack resulted in at least four direct hits, which caused the shutdown of oil and gas extraction from over 20 wells serviced by the platform.

The Filanovsky field is one of the largest in the Russian sector of the Caspian Sea, with reserves of 129 million tons of oil and 30 billion cubic meters of gas. The extracted resources were exported via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium.

An SBU representative stated:

“The SBU continues successful special operations against the Russian oil and gas sector, constantly expanding their geographic scope. ‘Bavovna’ in the Caspian Sea is another reminder to Russia that all its enterprises supporting the war are legitimate targets, wherever they are located.”

Experts note that attacks on Russian oil facilities help reduce fuel supplies for the occupying army and inflict significant economic losses on the Kremlin’s war machine.

For context, on the evening of December 10, 2025, Russian air defense forces shot down 32 drones heading toward Moscow. Explosions were reported in Zelenograd, Ramenskoye, Dubna, and Sergiyev Posad. Additionally, drones struck the Russian mineral fertilizer plant “Akron.”
